Congratulations to all parents, students, and staff! Cohutta Elementary is a winner of the Single Statewide Accountability System Award (SSAS Award) for making great gains in student achievement. We received the Silver Award. Our school is one of only thirteen elementary schools in the state of Georgia to receive this award. The criteria to be determined a winner:
Make Adequate Yearly Progress for two consecutive years;
Demonstrate that at least 25% of students exceed standards in all test areas as measured by state assessments; and
Place in the 96% or higher statewide in greatest student achievement gains.
After a month long study of "A Christmas Carol" and a discussion about the true spirit of Christmas, the 4th and 5th graders from Cohutta took a trip around the county volunteering at several local agencies including the Salvation Army, Providence Ministries, and Peachtree Nursing home. The day was capped off with a visit to Carmike Cinemas to check out "A Christmas Carol" in 3D. In addition to their volunteer work, the students collected over 150 toys to be passed out for Christmas. It's great to see our students involved and caring about their community!
A Cohutta Christmas Carol
The Cohutta Drama Club recently put on a production of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" for students and parents. Mrs. Hayes and several other dedicated staff members worked throughout the months of November and December wit the students, and the work paid off. The students did a fabulous job in both performances.
